Russ Rector: The inspiration for 'Wavy Adventures' character, Rusty

Yasmin's series, Wavy Adventures, stemmed from Linda Rector longing to honor her husband, Russ Rector who was a well-known activist and advocate of the ocean. Hearing about his hard work, mostly focused on protecting dolphins, inspired Yasmin to write stories that would continue his legacy but also fulfil her dreams of writing and actively spreading the word of protecting dolphins.

About Russ Rector

As said by his family, Russ Rector (aka Rusty) is a bigger than life character. His love of all marine mammals was legendary. Russ crusaded for the wellbeing of whales and dolphins in captivity and in the wild. His goals were to see them all free, living with their families and most importantly, in the wild habitat where they truly belong. In Wavy Adventures, Rusty is focused on keeping Shelly safe and delivering her back to the magical island and her pod. Much like in the story, the real Russ campaigned every day for captive animals and marine mammals alike. He was always willing to fight for those who could not fight for themselves. Russ stood up for the truth and what was right, which is reflected in the character of Rusty. Much like Russ, at first glance Rusty seems to have a hardened and pirate-like persona, however once we get to know him, we discover that he is just a big softy who ensures that anyone seeking to harm mammals are unsuccessful. We hope you enjoy the adventure and understand the important message of keeping all marine life, and for that matter all animals, safe and protected as there is no guarantee of what tomorrow will bring. We need to keep our planet healthy and secure for all future generations.
